Gli Ancillotti ci presentano in anteprima il loro nuovo album in un caldo pomeriggio di fine ottobre. Un tranquillo paese nella campagna ravennate. Un allettante evento atteso da tempo.
Arriviamo così ai Fear Recording Studio di Alfonsine con una gran sete di conoscenza, non vediamo l’ora di assistere alla presentazione del nuovo album degli Ancillotti.
Ma la nostra sete viene inizialmente soddisfatta da alcune bottiglie di buon vino, appena stappate in occasione del rinfresco che ci ha accolto insieme ai membri della band e al loro produttore Gabriele Ravaglia.
E mentre arrivano tutti gli ospiti, piano piano l’emozione si stempera, per lasciare il posto a quella che sembra essere diventata una riunione tra vecchi amici, accomunati da una grande passione.
Finalmente ci spostiamo all’interno dello studio, pronti per l’ascolto track by track.
Ciano inizia quindi ad introdurre il lavoro realizzato e la filosofia che ci sta dietro. L’album è nato come un ragionamento naturale dopo l’ultimo tour europeo con l’ex chitarrista dei Manowar, Ross “The Boss” ed è carico di forza e tanta rabbia.
Rispetto ai primi due infatti si differenzia anche per la presenza di più cattiveria e arroganza, ma mantenendo comunque intatta la melodia. “Spingiamo senza mezzi termini, i componenti non si risparmiano e ne viene fuori un gran tiro” sono parole sue.
E’ il turno di Bud, che ci presenta Giovanni Cardellino, alias John Goldfinch, voce dell’Impero delle Ombre. Tutti i testi sono proprio opera sua, con la supervisione finale di James Hoog. Quest’ultimo aveva curato gli album precedenti, ma per motivi personali non ha potuto seguire questo.
Giovanni si è ritrovato così a scrivere la prima canzone dalla sera alla mattina. Tanto è entrato in sintonia con le tematiche dell’album. Una questione di vibrazioni e di giusto mood in tutta onestà, che ha provato fin da subito.
Gli argomenti principali sono le guerre
volutamente al plurale perché di ogni tipo (territoriali, personali, di emozioni), la rivoluzione, anch’essa globale o interiore, e l’ecologia, ma specificando che non ha niente a che vedere con le ultime tendenze Greta addicted.
Viene svelato poi finalmente il titolo dell’album, che rappresenta perfettamente i sentimenti rappresentati in esso: Hell on Earth.
Il CD uscirà per la Pure Steel Record, mentre il vinile sarà a cura della Jolly Roger Records. Tutti gli strumenti sono stati registrati qui ai Fear Studio, ad eccezione della voce e dei cori, registrati presso l’FP Recording Studio di Federico Pedichini, a Lucca.
Finalmente inizia l’ascolto…le prime note hanno l’effetto di una bomba!
Fighting Man
Nella prima canzone un uomo combatte per la sua vita, per un nuovo inizio, e non si arrenderà mai in questa guerra interiore, fino alla rinascita.
“È una nuova vita per un uomo combattente, un nuovo fuoco scaturito da un fulmine.
È un nuovo fuoco per un uomo combattente, sono rinato dalla mia storia!”
Revolution
La seconda canzone ha un titolo che parla di Rock: E’ un inno alla rivoluzione della musica, del metal degli Ancillotti. Una magia travolgente, la stessa che si prova ad un concerto live. E segue l’onda del metal reazionario tipico dei Twisted Sister e dei Judas Priest.
“Non fermare la rivoluzione del rock, non mi si può fermare
Non fermare la rivoluzione del rock nella mia mente
Non fermarti, non fermarti!”
Firewind
In questa canzone la guerra torna, ma questa volta si tratta di guerra reale, che riporta alla mente la guerra fredda degli anni 80 ed il clima di sfiducia nei confronti del futuro. E’ per questo che il protagonista si sente in dovere di combattere e di indossare il suo “iron fist”, per proteggere la famiglia e la libertà.
Nelle parole della intro si rispecchia una realtà in stile Mad Max, dove un uomo incontra una donna e insieme tutto ciò che possono fare è…correre!
We are coming
Ci travolge quindi un inno agli anni 80, una canzone che celebra la gloriosa Legacy of Rock.
Con “We are coming” si esalta l’eccitazione provata durante i concerti, l’adrenalina che corre nei live, spingendo le sensazioni ad un livello anche erotico, come vuole la classica tradizione del rock. Un seguito istintivo di “Revolution”.
“Quando arriva la notte, l’Hard Rock è tornato!! Quando le luci si spengono, sei pronto per attaccare. Ti senti eccitato, senti le urla in aumento quando il mio sangue brucia, ascolta il mio suono!”
“…quando ti guardo, hey tesoro ti amo! Sono quello che fa per te… tutta la notte !!!”
Blessed by Fire
In questo testo si racconta la fortuna nel trovare un aiuto, che sia un amico o un parente, per affrontare la guerra di tutti i giorni. L’aiuto di una mano amica verso una persona ferita che ha bisogno di supporto per non abbattersi e andare incontro al mondo.
Una canzone che mette in particolare risalto la forza della batteria, che non si risparmia in nessun pezzo.
“Sei Benedetto dal fuoco, tocca il fuoco… è il tuo desiderio d’oro!
Tu combatti il leone, un Messia pazzo… se cadi ci sarò lo sai, ti darò la mia mano”
Broken Arrow
E’ quindi il turno di una canzone che racconta la resistenza del popolo dei pellerossa alle invasioni e alla colonizzazione.
Il capo tribù che lotta per il suo popolo è “Broken Arrow”, simbolo dell’amore della generazione 60/70 per queste tribù di nativi americani.
La stessa vicinanza che ci viene raccontata delle famiglie Ancillotti e Caroli verso questo popolo sofferente. Facile sentirci influenze di Ozzy, Dio, Motley Crüe e una chitarra ispirata dai Van Halen.

Another World
Ci viene presentata da Bud come una canzone che spacca! E ha ragione! Ci leggiamo il pianto disperato del nostro pianeta, sfruttato, violentato e distrutto dall’avidità umana.
C’è quindi la ricerca di un nuovo pianeta, però inteso come rinnovamento del nostro, non come fuga verso altri mondi. E per cambiare il nostro mondo dobbiamo rinnovare innanzitutto noi stessi come uomini.
Pura critica ecologista, con citazione del titolo dell’album nel testo.
Frankenstein
Il classico racconto è l’unica canzone che si discosta dalle tematiche dell’album, e che a detta di Giovanni, si adatta invece molto bene al suo campo di competenza.
Il povero mostro si strugge alla ricerca del significato dell’anima. Vorrebbe provare dei sentimenti ma è senza cuore. E’ un racconto horror gotico, con una intro da grand guignol.
Ma a ben pensarci non è una rivoluzione interiore quella che prova Frankenstein? E quanto bisogno avrebbe di una mano amica che lo guidasse nei suoi conflitti quotidiani!
Till the End
Per raccontare le note dell’ultima canzone è opportuno e significativo riportare le parole di Giovanni:
“Il pianeta è in difficoltà. Che fare? Una sana e cazzuta rivoluzione, una fottuta guerra all’ignoranza, al menefreghismo. E quale colonna sonora migliore di un bel disco HM italiano? GLI ANCILLOTTI CONQUISTERANNO IL MONDO!”
Occorre aggiungere altro?

I’m alive, for the future, till the end”
L’ascolto è finito, ma in tutta onestà ne vorremmo ancora di più. Questo disco lascia con la voglia di ricominciare da capo. Anche la scaletta è stata studiata seguendo un filo emotivo ed ogni canzone potrebbe sembrare benissimo un live.
Sono tutte altamente orecchiabili e alcuni ritornelli sono già stampati in testa. Ora è il turno per noi ospiti di rispondere ad alcune domande della band. Vogliono sapere quali sono i pezzi che ci hanno colpito di più e se sono riusciti a trasmetterci le emozioni che hanno impresso nel disco. Anche per loro è stato interessante osservarci durante l’ascolto.
Lo stupore vale più di mille parole
Ciano afferma in aggiunta a questo che molte espressioni di stupore sono state più eloquenti di qualsiasi complimento. Siamo tutti concordi nell’affermare che ogni pezzo potrebbe diventare un potenziale singolo, con relativo video, così ci svela che i primi di dicembre verrà girato il video promo di “Revolution” in attesa dell’uscita dell’album nei primi mesi del 2020.
Poi ci confessa che per la band è importante soprattutto riscontrare il parere favorevole di gente genuina, che la pensa come loro. Sostenitori che amano la musica e che apprezzano le emozioni che loro vogliono trasmettere.
D’altra parte la vita on the road, la magia del suonare, hanno sempre fatto parte della grande famiglia del rock e della storica famiglia Ancillotti.
In Hell on Earth hanno voluto trasportare tutta la loro energia
In modo naturale, come si dice ‘alla vecchia’, senza campionature. Sia nella musica quanto nei testi. Con una base di metal classico anni 80, gli arrangiamenti danno una notevole corposità e anche l’uso delle tastiere di Simone Manuli è stato fatto sapientemente, senza che prendano il sopravvento. Semplicemente accennate, ma che danno quel tocco in più ad ogni singola frase musicale.
D’altra parte la masterizzazione è stata affidata a Jacob Hansen, degli Hansen Studios danesi; mix engineer anche di Volbeat,U.D.O., Primal Fear, Pretty Maids, Fleshgod Apocalypse e Epica, per citarne alcuni.
E la sapiente ricerca della qualità è sotto gli occhi e le orecchie di tutti!
Abbiamo sentito richiami agli Accept, Judas Priest e Dio. Così come ai Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne e Black Sabbath. Ma anche Motley Crue, Thin Lizzy e Twisted Sisters.
Ma il timbro che caratterizza gli Ancillotti è unico e in questo disco viene espresso prepotentemente.
Questo album in particolare potrebbe essere visto come la degna conclusione di una potente trilogia, ma fortunatamente la band riconosce di essere ancora in evoluzione, con la volontà di affinare ancora di più la loro opera. Non possiamo che esserne felici e restiamo fiduciosi in ulteriori sviluppi per il futuro.
Intanto aspettiamo le date del tour organizzato dalla agenzia europea di booking DMC Group (Belgio) che partirà poco dopo l’uscita del disco.
L’unica curiosità rimasta a fine giornata riguarda la copertina del disco.
Possiamo svelare solamente l’autore, il portoghese Augusto Peixoto, ma sarà sicuramente di forte impatto, come tutte le canzoni che rappresenta.
Rock My Life racconta emozioni e questa volta è stato talmente facile che è come se certe sensazioni si fossero raccontate da sole. Grazie Ancillotti! Noi combatteremo la vostra rivoluzione insieme a voi…fino alla fine!

ANCILLOTTI NEW WORLDWIDE ALBUM “HELL ON EARTH” PRE-LISTENING SESSION.
A warm afternoon in late October. A quiet village in the Ravenna countryside. An attractive event that has long been awaited.
We arrive at Alfonsine’s Fear Recording Studio with a great thirst for knowledge, we look forward to seeing the presentation of the new Ancillotti album.
But our thirst is initially satisfied by some bottles of good wine, just uncorked during the party that welcomed us together with the band members and their producer Gabriele Ravaglia.
And while all the guests arrive, the excitement slowly fades away, to give space to what appears to have become a meeting between old friends, united by a great passion.
Finally we move into the studio, ready to listen to the album track by track.
Ciano begins to introduce the work done and the philosophy behind it. The album was born as a natural reasoning after the last European tour with the former Manowar guitarist, Ross “The Boss” and is full of strength and so much anger.
Compared to the first two, in fact, it differs in the presence of more malice and arrogance, but still keeping the melody intact.
“We play hard with no limits, the members don’t save their strength and a great sound comes out” are his words.
It is Bud’s turn, who introduces Giovanni Cardellino, alias John Goldfinch.
Voice of the “Impero delle Ombre”. He wrote all the texts, with the final supervision of James Hoog. James had edited the previous albums, but for personal reasons he couldn’t follow this one. And Giovanni found himself writing the first song from night to morning, so much he was in tune with the themes of the album.
A question of vibrations and the right mood, he told us, that he felt from the start. The main topics are wars, deliberately plural because of all kinds (territorial, personal, emotional), Revolution, which is also global or interior, and ecology, but specifying that it has nothing to do with the latest trends ‘Greta addicted’.
The title of the album is revealed, which perfectly represents the feelings in it: Hell on Earth.
CD will be released by Pure Steel Record, while the vinyl will be released by Jolly Roger Records. All the instruments were recorded here at the Fear Studio, except for the voice and choirs, recorded at the FP Recording Studio of Federico Pedichini, in Lucca.
Finally the listening begins … the first notes have the effect of a bomb!
Fighting Man
In the first song a man fights for his life, for a new beginning, and he will never give up in this inner war, until the rebirth.
Revolution
The second song has a title that speaks of Rock: “Revolution” It is a hymn to the revolution of music, of the Ancillotti metal. An overwhelming magic, the same that you feel at a live concert. And it follows the wave of reactionary metal typical of Twisted Sister and Judas Priest.
Firewind
In this song the war returns, but this time it is a real war, which brings to mind the cold war of the 80s and the feeling of distrust in the future.
This is why the protagonist feels forced to fight and wear his “iron fist”, to protect the family and freedom.
A Mad Max style reality is reflected in the words of the intro, where a boy meets a girl and all they can do is … run!
We are coming
We are swept away by a hymn to the 80s, a song that celebrates the glorious Legacy of Rock. The excitement felt during the concerts is enhanced, the adrenaline that runs in live shows, pushing the sensations to an even erotic level, as the classic rock tradition wants. An instinctive following of “Revolution”.
Blessed by Fire
In this lyric the fortune is about finding help, be it a friend or relative, to face the war of every day. The help of a helping hand towards an injured person who needs support not to fall and face up to the world. A song that particularly emphasizes the strength of the battery, which is not saved in any piece.
Broken Arrow
It is therefore the turn of a song that tells of the resistance of the Indians to the invasions and colonization. The tribal leader who fights for his people is “Broken Arrow”, a symbol of 60/70 generation love for these Native American tribes.
The same closeness that we are told of the Ancillotti and Caroli families towards this suffering people. Easy to feel influences from Ozzy, Dio, Motley Crüe and a Van Halen inspired guitar.
Another World
Bud introduced this one as a song that breaks! And he’s right! We find the desperate cry of our planet, exploited, violated and destroyed by human greed.
There is therefore the search for a new planet, but understood as a renewal of ours, not as a journey to other worlds. And to change our world we must first renew ourselves as men. Pure ecological criticism, with mention of the title of the album in the text.
Frankenstein
The classic story is the only song that differs from the themes of the album, and that according to Giovanni, adapts very well to his area of competence instead. The poor monster suffers in search of the meaning of the soul. He would like to have feelings but he is heartless.
It’s a gothic horror story, with an intro like grand guignol. But if you think about it, isn’t Frankenstein experiencing an inner revolution? And how much need of a helping hand to guide him in his daily conflicts!
Till the End
To tell the notes of the last song it’s appropriate and meaningful to quote Giovanni’s words:
“The planet is in difficulty. What to do? A healthy and shrewd revolution, a fucking war against ignorance, indifference. And what better soundtrack than a good italian HM record? THE ANCILLOTTI WILL CONQUER THE WORLD! ”
Need more?
The listening is over, but we would like to have more. This record leaves you wanting to start over again. Even the tracklist has been studied following an emotional thread and every song could seem like a live show. They are all highly catchy and some refrains are already printed on the head.
Now it’s our turn to answer some questions from the band. They want to know which are the pieces that have impressed us the most and if they managed to convey the emotions they have imprinted on the record. It was also interesting for them to observe each other while listening.
Ciano says that many expressions of amazement were more eloquent than any compliments.
We all agree that each piece could become a potential single, with its own video, so he reveals that the video of “Revolution” will be filmed in early December pending the release of the album in early 2020.
Then he confesses that for the band is especially important to find the favorable opinion of genuine people, who think like them. Supporters who love music and who appreciate the emotions they want to convey: life on the road, the magic of playing, the sense of family, the great rock family and the historic Ancillotti family.
In Hell on Earth they wanted to put all their energy, naturally, in the “old” way, without sampling.
Both in music and in lyrics. With a classic 80s metal base, the arrangements give a remarkable sound and even the use of Simone Manuli’s keyboards has been done wisely, without taking over, simply hinted at, but giving an extra touch to every single music sentence.
On the other hand the mastering was entrusted to Jacob Hansen, of the Danish Hansen Studios; also mix engineer of Volbeat, U.D.O., Primal Fear, Pretty Maids, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Epica, to name a few.
And the wise search for quality is under everyone’s eyes…and ears!
We heard references to Accept, Judas Priest and Dio. As well as to Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. But also Motley Crüe, Thin Lizzy and Twisted Sisters. But the sound that characterizes the Ancillotti is unique and on this record it is forcefully expressed.
This album could be seen as the worthy conclusion of a powerful trilogy, but fortunately the band recognizes that it is still evolving, with the desire to refine their work even more. We cannot but be happy and remain confident in further developments for the future.
Meanwhile we await the dates of the tour organized by the european booking agency DMC Group (Belgium) which will start shortly after the release of the album.
The only curiosity left at the end of the day concerns the album cover. We can only reveal the author, the portuguese Augusto Peixoto, but it will surely be of great impact, like all the songs it represents.
Rock My Life tells emotions and this time it was so easy that seems as if certain sensations were told by themselves. Thanks Ancillotti! We will fight your revolution with you … till the end!
